Is this your first time stretching canvas on to a frame? We’ve got you covered with easy-to-follow guide. All of our paint by numbers kits come with a wood frame so you can showcase your masterpiece.
Should I stretch the canvas before or after painting?
It depends on your preferences:
Directions
Prepare the frame: Interlock the corners of the wood frame and make sure that the lip side of each piece face the same direction. You can use wood glue if you want to permanently bond the pieces, but it is not necessary.
Fold the canvas: Lay the canvas face down on a flat surface and fold back the canvas on the edge of the print. The goal is to create a straight line to use as a guide.
Align the frame: Lay the canvas face down on a flat surface and fold back the canvas on the edge of the print. You are trying to create a straight line to use as a guide
Secure the canvas: With the canvas face down, align the wooden frame lip side down with the folded side of the canvas. Pin the middle of a side with one tack, check the alignment and repeat for the remaining sides.
Add more tacks: Add two more tacks to each side (total of 3).
Prepare the corners: The corners can be the trickiest part of stretching a canvas. We avoid cutting the canvas to avoid potential rips and allow for the reuse of the canvas in the future. Place a tack close to the natural fold of the corner (appx. 1 inch from the corner).
Fold the corner: Take the point created in the corner of the frame and fold it downward toward the corner of the wood frame.
Finish the corner: Fold the top flap downward to create a clean, squared-off corner. Add tacks as needed on the rest of the frame.
